How To Prevent Toenail Fungus

If your toenails have become very thick and you find it hard to cut them, you can safely assume you have fungus of toenails. The other symptoms of fungus in toenails are color change (nails may become yellow or blackish in color), and when they look dry and very crumbly. Fungus finds it easy to take shelter underneath and around the toenails. People wear shoes and socks all the time which leads to conditions which are favorable for the development of fungus. Fungus thrives in damp, dark and warm conditions and we present all three when we wear shoes and socks for hours at stretch. Fungus is not easy to cure once it develops, so it is better to take preventive measures so that it does not develop.

Our body has an immune system which fights whenever there are any invaders. Fungus, when it attacks our nails is fought off, but poor nutrition creates poor defense and fungus easily sets in. eating fruits and vitamins for better intake of proteins and vitamins makes nails strong and they do not allow fungus to set in.

As told earlier, fungus thrives in warm, damp conditions. We wear shoes and socks which are favorable for the development of fungus. But if we wash our feet with warm water everyday and then dry them properly with a clean towel, they remain fresh and are not susceptible to fungus. Using powder in the space between toes and fingers is also a good idea. Those who wear tight shoes are more prone to fungus. Always wear comfortable shoes. Wearing dirty socks which are used for days at stretch also provide fertile environment for fungus. Make sure you wear clean and dry socks to keep your feet and nails soft and dry.

Trimming toenails regularly does not allow dirt or other impurities to set in underneath nails which is a precondition for fungus. Make it a habit to cut nails every two weeks.
